Why you should consider a career as a Superyacht
Stewardess?
Many people dream of travelling the world and exploring the furthest most regions. However, the majority do not have the finances or free time to achieve this goal, so they lay their travel plans to rest. But did you know that there is a career that offers ambitious, driven and talented individuals the chance to explore all corners of the globe while combining the best hospitality and luxury? Life as a superyacht steward or stewardess offers you just that and so much more.
A thoroughly rewarding and demanding role, working on a superyacht as a steward or stewardess is not that unlike working in a five-star hotel - however, the perks far outway any hotel. Imagine working on a floating hotel which travels through the Caribbean or Italian Riviera!
Although the yachting industry may not be the easiest to start in, once you have your foot in the door and put in the effort required, you are guaranteed future work and better positions.
Most captains and crew agencies look for qualified or skilled crew members, but those with lots of energy, a positive attitude, and an open personality with the drive to succeed will go far in the industry. Once you land your first job, whether it is onboard a private yacht or a charter, your working hours as a steward or stewardess will be based on rotating shifts. These tend to be based on how many guests are onboard and how long the superyacht will be occupied. A fair warning - working days can be long, with hours starting from before the guests awaken to after they have gone to sleep. The highest standards of hospitality are always expected, no matter what time of the day or night it is as the guests' needs come first.
Some of the job’s main responsibilities include taking care of the guests every need, housekeeping and maintaining the yacht’s interior. Daily tasks include the meticulous cleaning of the guest suites, common areas and bathrooms, as well as laundry, ironing, flower arrangements/decorations and table setting for all meals. At the same time, superyacht stewards and stewardesses are expected to offer world-class service to guests throughout the day, whether they are dining onboard, lounging on the sunbeds or drinking cocktails at the bar.
In return for providing the utmost levels of hospitality seven days a week, superyacht stewards and stewardesses are compensated handsomely. Base salaries start at a minimum of €2,500 per month, without including the average 10% tips most crew members receive after a trip, tax-free. Another benefit of the job is that all meals and boarding are included during your stay on the superyacht. In addition, you are free to explore the remote and exotic regions the superyacht travels through on your days off, making it easier than ever to travel the world! So why don't you see if a career as a yacht steward or stewardess is the right match for you?
